When people think of hot springs experience close to Taipei, Beitou comes to mind first due to its close proximity. However, Jiaoxi is far nicer, better organised and with many indoor and outdoor hot springs to choose from. It truly is a premier hot spring town in Taiwan.
The hot spring water here is naturally crystal clear, with temperatures ranging from 45–55°C. Packed with carbonate and sodium ions, it leaves your skin feeling smooth and non-sticky.
Choosing where to stay in Jiaoxi depends entirely on whether you prefer a budget option near the train station or a more luxurious mountain experience. Either way, you’ll have an amazing time exploring the town, soaking in mineral tubs, wandering the night markets, and escaping the big city.

Is It Worth Staying Overnight in Jiaoxi?
Absolutely yes! For me this is a no-brainer because Jiaoxi is such a relaxing place, close to the mountains, with many outdoor and indoor hot spring facilities (public or private) and it is the perfect weekend getaway from Taipei to unwind.
We spent several weeks in Taipei and decided to visit Jiufen – Shifen – Jiaoxi for a relaxing break before returning to the busy streets of Taipei and it turned out to be a super relaxing and unique experience.
If you are short on time, sure, do it as a day trip at least. However, if you have 1 night to spare, I’d definitely recommend you stay in Jiaoxi and splurge.
Where to Stay in Jiaoxi Taiwan – Best Areas
A quick tip on crowds: Try to visit mid-week as weekends and holidays get heavily packed.
Near Jiaoxi Railway Station (Best for Convenience & Walkability)
If you are figuring out where to stay in Jiaoxi and want ultimate convenience, staying right by the Railway Station is the most practical choice. You can step off the platform and walk to your hotel in minutes without dragging bags up hills.
This area puts you next to convenience stores, local eateries, and Jiaoxi Hot Spring Park and it is easy to move around without needing a taxi.
The Hillside & Resort District (Best for Luxury & Private Views)
If you want something quieter with mountain views, the hillside area tucked back from the center is where some of the best hot spring hotels in Jiaoxi are located.
Depending on how far up the slope your hotel is, you might need a quick taxi from the station if you have heavy luggage, but the peaceful atmosphere, valley views, and private tubs make it completely worth it.
Best Hot Spring Hotels in Jiaoxi
For all the hotels suggested below, I’ve included direct links to Booking and Agoda (Taiwan’s main accommodation platforms). However, I personally found better deals on Booking.com for Jiaoxi, though it’s always worth double-checking your specific dates, especially if you’re traveling during peak months.
Best Luxury Hot Spring Hotels
Price range: ~€200-400+ per night
This is by far one of the best hot spring hotels in Jiaoxi if you want a full-blown luxury resort experience. It has a gorgeous rooftop hot spring pool and minimalist rooms with deep private soaking tubs.
It’s also an amazing choice for families, with well-maintained indoor and outdoor playgrounds, daily kids’ activities like mini train or car rides, and an excellent breakfast. You get top-tier service and luxury amenities just a short walk from the station, and while it is pricey, you can often find great discounts when booking a month or more in advance.
Price range: ~€200-450+ per night
This hotel is inspired by traditional Japanese onsen culture with natural stone and wood design throughout. Every room has a massive private stone tub with real hot spring water that makes the stay unforgettable.
Located close to both the train and bus stations with plenty of food options nearby, it also has great facilities like a gym and exceptional public onsen baths. It sits a bit up towards the hills for a relaxing retreat, and while pricey, booking in advance usually unlocks great discounts.
Mid-Range & Budget Hot Spring Stays
Price range: ~€130–€180 per night
This modern hotel sits further back toward the hills, offering great views of the green mountain forest, a lovely rooftop bar and convenient parking. The rooms are equipped with a spacious, private hot spring tub by the balcony for utmost relaxation.

🛏️ Kilin Hotel
Price range: ~€80–€120 per night
This is one of the best mid-range options right in the center of town, surrounded by local markets, parks, bakeries, and souvenir shops. Every single room comes with a proper hot spring bathtub built right inside.
You also get access to fantastic top-floor open-air hot springs and a swimming pool complete with a jacuzzi, perfect for unwinding after exploring. It is a solid, practical choice if you want comfort without paying luxury prices.
Price range: ~€50 per night
If you are traveling long-term on a tight budget, renting a local apartment like we did is a great alternative. Our place cost around €50 a night and came with its own private hot spring bathtub in the room.
It is next to Tangweigou Park, night stalls, and local eateries. We enjoyed a lot the public foot baths at Jiaoxi Hot Spring Park and the onsen at Jiaoxi Forest Bath, where we paid 530 TWD (€14.80 / $17) for two people with no time limit.
